The Tranquil Oceanographic Society (TOS) is a government funded agency that supports and fosters interest and research in Oceanography and other related science fields. TOS was founded in May 1995 as a Child department of the Department of Science and Research (DOSAR) with the focus on oceanography and marine sciences. During this time DOSAR recieved siginificant funding from the central Tranquillian Government and as such decided to expand their operations and branch out with child departments focusing on specific science or research bases, among other departments created during this time was the Tranquil Future Technology Council (TFTC), Tranquil Space and Orbital Observation Society (TSOOS) and the Tierrasur Research Agency (TRA).

Publications

TOS publishes the bi-monthly Bulletin of the Tranquil Oceanographic Society, and multiple peer reviewed studies and White papers each year.

Statement on Climate Change

In early 2018 after the initial findings from the climate change study conducted at Aquarian III were published, 300 prominent scientists and researches within TOS signed a joint letter along with their counterparts from DOSAR, which stated that both agencies believed in the current theory of climate change and urged the government to fund further research into climate change along with several other suggestions for meeting carbon emission goals. The 4 page letter was published in the bi monthly publication along with online and a separate statements on the agencies website. Public reaction to the statement was overwhelmingly positive and political reaction was unanimous in offering support and acceptance of the findings.
