Port Richberg, Officially known as the Special Administration Zone, is the Capitol city and 2nd largest metropolitan area of Tranquillia. According to the 2022 census, Port Richberg is home to 2,443,722 people living in it’s CBD and Urban metropolitan areas. Port Richberg is also the second largest sea port in Tranquillia and houses 3 commercial shipping ports on it’s southern side along with 2 tourism cruise ports. The city is split into 3 districts, HoShui is the technology hub and houses global offices for dozens of major tech firms along with the campus for Kilon Technological University. Linpa is the financial district of Tranquillia with investment firms, stock trades and banking industries setting up shop there, an average of 300 million routan are traded daily in Linpa. Kenmi is the cities urban district housing the majority of the population in sprawling skyscrapers and towers.

Port Richberg was voted Tranquillia’s most livable city with a GDP per capita (PPP) of around $40,000. With major technology hubs centered in HoShui and financial hubs in Linpa. The city was designed in 1982 by state architecture firm SangJo Industrial Corp and was designed around easy access and renewable energy concepts, in 2021 the city gained significant praise from the international community by switching it’s electricity grid to 100% renewable energy for a period of 12 months.

History

Port Richberg was designed in 1982 by state architecture firm SangJo Industrial Corp who were selected to design and build the new national capital after an architecture competition. The City begun construction in July of 1982 with the HoShui district being the first major area to be built. Construction of phase one lasted 5 years and included base foundations for all 3 major districts along with the completed administration district which houses the national assembly and governmental offices. Phase 2 was completed in 1993 which included the construction of all 5 shipping terminals and ports along with connections to the newly built national hi-speed rail netwoprk allowing for rapid transportation to the Capital city.

Phase 3 and 4 were completed simultaneously on nanoarray 1st 2000 to mark the bringing of the new millennium, these phases included upgrades to existing infrastructure, increased network and internet exchanges as well as completion of several public works projects like museums, sports stadiums and parks.

Geography

The artificial city was designed to be futureproof with areas allocated to future network/utility expansion underground, predefined areas for rail works and large city streets for increased traffic flow. Port Richberg epitomizes the term "concrete jungle" with it's skyscrapers and towers piercing to through the clouds, large streets and a vast network of subterranean tunnels and open areas. to offset the concrete and artificial lighting several untouched areas were given special protection in 1995, paving the way for the so called 3 parks, these 3 large green landscapes were carved and designed to allow for a calming atmosphere.

Port Richberg lies low on the continent because it's a port city, fears about major flooding and tsunamis whit the focus of the nation in the early 2000's after heavy rain caused a flash flood along the Linpa district, causing more then 20 billion in damages to buildings and infrastructure. Since the floods Port Richberg has spent millions to increase it's drainage system along with adding in flood walls and pop up flood barricades to divert water away from key infrastructure.

Tranquillia is known for it's green and renewable initiatives, these also are shown in the way that "port Richberg" has managed it's vast public transport system. While the streets of the city accommodate cars and trucks easily, heavy emphasis has been put on public transport with busses running every 4 minutes to major locations, light rail and tram projects along with a thriving rail network.

The city of Port Richberg is proud of their thriving public transport system with busses being free of charge to all citizens in the city. The bus network runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 364 days a year and comprises of more then 200 busses. the fleet is colour coordinated with 4 main routes each identifiable by the colour of the bus (red, green, yellow, blue). Although the majority of the fleet runs on solar power or biofuel, approximately 40% of the fleet are still running older models who's carbon footprint and pollution pose a significant danger to the cities quality of air.

Vast urban rail networks go along the roods in the capital, 7 major light rail and tram lines exist through the city and accommodate more then 10,000 riders per day. similar to the busses, the fee for riding in any public transportation is free of charge and runs 24/7. in 2020 the government launched a program to revitalise the aging light rail system and replace the existing fleet of 30 trains with newer fully automated models, the upgrade is expected to be complete by 2025 at a cost of 1.5 billion Routan.

The light rail system was introduced in Phase 4 of construction, the first stages were completed in 2002 which connected Kilon Technological University with the newly completed Kenmi urban district

Sea Ports

Port Richberg is home to a set of five commercial shipping ports that were constructed in 1994 to cater to the growing demand for cargo transport in Tranquillia. These ports are located on the western coast of the city and have since become the second-largest shipping terminals in the country.
