The Security-class, is a class of minesweepers made for the Kivuian Navy in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Characteristics

Anti-magnetism measures

Mines that are detonated by magnetic systems or by noise are very difficult to deactivate, sometimes it has to be done by submersible vehicles and divers. For this purpose, the ships were made of fiber and coated with GRP. The outer layer was covered in turn with vinyl and polyester.

As an additional measure, the electric motors were manufactured to produce few magnetic fields and compensate each other.

Anti-noise measures

The diesel generators power two silent electric motors. The set of diesel generators is at the stern of the ship, confined with watertight bulkys. These are at a height higher than the waterline to contribute to silent navigation.

Security-class mine hunters do not use the usual naval propellers as a propulsion system, but two Voith Schneider. The Voith-Schneider is formed by several variable-pass blades that move in a circle entering a vertical position to the water. The entire structure of the Voith can rotate on its axis so that the ship can fall to one band or another, thus achieving amazing maneuverability.

The two outboard boats carried by each of these ships are also equipped with silent motors.

Anti-pressure and anti-contact measures

To avoid approaching the mines or touching them, these ships are very maneuverable, and to make closed turns they have two electric bow thrusters that are capable, along with the blades of the Voith-Schneider aft, to create a couple of forces that allow you to rotate in very little space.

Equipment

Like their predecessors, they have diving equipment and a Gayrobot Pluto Plus submersible (to locate and destroy mines up to 300 m). Subsequently, the Kongsberg Minesniper was incorporated (a type of submerged and remote-controlled torpedo that can destroy mines at a maximum distance of 4000 m).

They also have a sonar to detect mines up to 300 m, which can be used at the keel level or submerged. It also has two cranes and a hyperbaric chamber in case decompression accidents happen.
