The National Democratic Party (NDP), also known as the Kokumintō in Giriskonese, is a political party in the Empire of Girisko. The NDP is a centre-right party and the largest political party in Girisko. Its primary rival is the Kyōtō, the largest party in the ??? coalition. As of 2024, the NDP is the largest single party in the Legislative Bumon. The current leader is Tomosuke Hasegawa. It has been getting re-elected with a majority in the Legislative Bumon for several consecutive times since 1950, achieving majority in the first elections after the drafting of the Constitution, and getting re-elected in 62 out of the modern nation's 72-year long history. It's established ideology is Progressive conservatism.
The party originated in 1950, after the final set of reforms by the Tenmei empire resulted in the drafting of the constitution of the Empire of Girisko. The Tenmei dynasty dissolved, and the imperial family of the time, including Nanaka Ishii, who was the last empress in the line of The golden emperors, came together and formed the National Democratic Party, alongside Monsilvan democratic preachers and well-known figures of the Giriskonese enlightenment. As such, the National Democratic Party is the direct continuation of the Tenmei dynasty. The National Democratic Party had won the first elections in Girisko. Initially, it was more conservative, but over the next few years, the Giriskonese enlightenment led the party to fully embrace progressive conservatism. The NDP quickly rose as the largest party in Girisko, as the people voted it to a large extent. It is because of this practise that Girisko is considered a de-facto dominant-party state.
The NDP has a track record of being the least corrupt and most transparent party in Girisko. The first five prime ministers originating from the DMT and many others afterwards were known as "the greats", as they introduced major reforms into Girisko, seeking closer relations with Monsilva, and kickstarting the Girisko miracle and the Giriskonese way. Sometimes, it failed to achieve majority or form a government, but it never fell out of prevalence.
Today, it is the largest single party in Girisko, and is regarded as a highly trustable, all-rounder party for people who wish to keep the status quo and keep improving their living conditions, as the quality of leadership of the NDP has only kept increasing.
