Cormac Donaidh Gilchrist TS (born 28 June 1974) is a Hapatmitasian politician who served as the prime minister of Hapatmitas from 2016 to 2024. He is one of the country's longest-serving prime ministers. Gilchrist formerly served as the chairman of the National Democratic Union from 2015 to 2024 and has served as a member of the National Assembly for various Donideann constituencies since 2006. Additionally, Gilchrist was the chair of the Parliamentary Defence Committee in the National Assembly from 2010 to 2015.

Gilchrist was born in Donideann and educated at Donideann National University. Before entering politics, he served in the Hapatmitasian Army reserves as part of the Adjutant Corps and Intelligence Corps. Gilchrist also served in the 4th Army Reserve Brigade for a brief period. Gilchrist is part of the thirty-two officers in the Intelligence Corps responsible for the introduction of the Eosgmo intelligence system into the Hapatmitasian Army. He ended his service in the Army in 2004.

Gilchrist was elected in 2006 as a member of the National Assembly for Donideann; political analysts determined that his service in the Army allowed for a landslide victory against his opponent. During his time on the backbenches, Gilchrist criticised a platform of defence and veterans' policies by the government and opposition. He was selected as the new chair of the Parliamentary Defence Committee in 2010. Gilchrist was responsible for scrutinising 6 defence ministers, all of whom had reformed their defence administration because of Gilchrist's scrutiny.

In 2015, Gilchrist stood in the National Democratic Union party leadership election and was successfully elected in November. He also led the party in the general election in December under a combined platform from his predecessor and his. Gilchrist was nominated by the National Assembly as first minister on 1 January 2016 and appointed on 2 January 2016 by the President. In the early years of his tenure, Gilchrist slowly implemented his New Decade reform initiative, which stood on the scopes of welfare and healthcare, education, economy, and defence. The National Assembly, during his first tenure, was the most active in 12 years, passing nearly 320+ laws upon Gilchrist's appointment. The first minister's approval rating was higher than any of his predecessors since the start of the 21st century. Gilchrist also led the ADN into the 2019 general election. He announced his resignation as the chairman of the National Democratic Union on 12 March 2024 and was succeeded by Doug Macintosh as prime minister and party chairman.

Early life and education

Cormac Donaidh Gilchrist was born on 28 June 1974 at the University Medical Center in the Donideann National University, and raised in the Daesdarath suburb in Donideann. He has two brothers and three sisters. He is the second-oldest of the six children of retired four-star admiral Norman Gilchrist and Maeri Morrison (1947–2010), a former nurse at the Justice Medical Hospital in Greater Sturgeon.

Gilchrist's mother, Maeri, was a known smoker in the family and died in 2010 shortly following her diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. Gilchrist's youngest sister, Ann-Maeri, died at the age of 8 in a car crash with their dad, Norman; Norman survived but continues to suffer from PTSD.

Gilchrist graduated from the Donideann National University in 1995, ranking fourth in his class, with a Master's in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts.
