Cheasequah Usti Waya (Sequoyan: ᏇᎠᏎᏆ ᎤᏥ ᏩᏯ; born 22 August 1970) is a Sequoyan former politician who served as the 15th president of Sequoyah from 20 April 2014 until his overthrow on 28 May 2020.

Before politics, Waya led an extensive military career, where he was highly respected for his accomplishments in protecting railways and cities against attacks by the Cheyall tribe. He became mayor of Kalgaduv in 2012 and later president of Sequoyah in 2014. During his presidency, he passed subsidies for companies and granted federal recognition to trade unions. As a result of the rise of tribal violence during his presidency, was re-elected unopposed in February 2020.

Following a scandal when he legalized slavery in April 2020 and an ensuing national crisis, Waya resigned as president and was imprisoned by Admiral Diwali Wesa. Waya was pardoned in June 2022; shortly after he was pardoned, he was attacked by tribals, tortured, and handed to Creeperopolis custody. Waya was released in August 2022 and lives in exile in Sonsonate, Creeperopolis.

Early life

Cheasequah Usti Waya was born on 22 August 1970 in Asequi, Sequoyah. He claims to be direct descendant of Cheasequah I, the first king of the Empire of Sequoyah. Waya attended the Kalgaduv Military College in 1986 at the age of 16 and joined the Sequoyan Army immediately after his graduation.

Military career

Waya first served in the Sequoyan Army after graduating from the military college in 1990. He entered the army as a lieutenant and was first deployed to protecting a Central Railroad Company crew against Cheyall raiding parties as they worked on the Sequoyan Transnational Railroad. He served in several engagements against the Cheyall, and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 2004 for ensuring Cheyall raiding parties were unable to significantly destroy the railroads under his jurisdiction. In 2012, he was promoted to brigadier general and placed over the defense of Kalgaduv. Preferring to use overwhelming force to crush his enemies despite the number of casualties, Waya was able to destroy several Cheyall raiding parties and completely pushed the Cheyall out of Kalgaduv and the farms and mines around it. In 2016, he promoted himself to major general.

Political career

Mayor of Kalgaduv

In 2012, Waya was elected as the mayor of Kalgaduv as a member of the Federalist Party. While mayor, he implemented higher taxes on small businesses and railroad companies to help fund his military campaigns against the Cheyall, as he was still an active military commander. He began construction of a fort on the outskirts of the city and expanded the Port of Kalgaduv, the city's largest fishing port.

Waya's term as mayor of Kalgaduv proved to be very popular, and although his term did not expire until 2016, he decided to run for president of Sequoyah in the country's 2014 presidential election. During his campaign, he promised to complete the country's transnational railroad, end tribal attacks on cities and towns, suppress tribal rebel activity, and implement tax cuts and subsidies to gun and steel companies. He won the presidential election with 58.31 percent of the vote, defeating Whig Party challenger Johnson Roberts, the then vice president.

President of Sequoyah

Waya was inaugurated as president of Sequoyah on 20 April 2014, succeeding Whig president Wohali Nashoba; the day prior, Waya resigned as mayor of Kalgaduv and was succeeded by John Acosta. Atsadi Onacona was Waya's vice president.

During Waya's term, he passed the Manufacturing Subsidy Act through congress which granted subsidies to the Browning Arms Company. He also passed the Labor Incentives Act which granted unions federal recognition on the condition that they did not go on strike. Tribal violence increased between 2014 and 2020. During the 2020 presidential election, Waya ran unopposed citing the need to prevent division during a period of national instability. Waya was inaugurated for his second term on 20 April 2020.

On 6 April 2020, Sequoyah joined the Cooperation and Development Coalition (CODECO), a military and economic alliance of various Surian and Southern Ecrosian countries. On 29 April 2020, Waya signed a bill into law which legalized slavery[1] The bill was condemned by many countries, resulting in several sanctions being placed on Sequoyah as well as Sequoyah's expulsion from CODECO on 1 May 2020. The scandal lead to a wave of opposition to Waya's presidency and he was forced to resign on 28 June 2020.

Post-presidency

After Waya's resignation, he was replaced by Admiral Diwali Wesa who assumed the role of interim president. Wesa ordered Waya's arrest and he was placed under preventative detainment until charges could be brought against him, however, he never faced any charges. During the October 2020 presidential election, United Sequoyah Party candidate Usti Atagulkalu promised to pardon Waya if he was elected as the country's president; Atagulkalu won the election, defeating Republican Party challenger Diwali Yansa with 54.22 percent of the vote,[2] however, he was arrested by Wesa on 27 November 2020 and the results of the election were annulled.[3]

Following CODECO's military intervention in Sequoyah in December 2020 to end the Sequoyan Civil War, Wesa was overthrown and replaced by Captain Atohi Dustu as provisional president. Wesa was imprisoned and Waya remained imprisoned throughout Dustu's provisional presidency. In the 2022 presidential election, Dustu was elected as president as a member of the National Reconstruction Party.

In June 2022, Dustu pardoned both Waya and Wesa of any crimes they committed during their presidencies. Shortly after Waya was pardoned, he was attacked by tribals outside of Asequi and tortured. He was then taken to the Creeperopolis–Sequoyah border and handed over to Creeperian custody, where they believed the Waya would imprisoned. Waya was taken into Creeperian custody and imprisoned for a short time, but was later released in August 2022 and settled in Sonsonate. According to some Creeperian sources, Waya supports the National Reconstruction Party-led Sequoyan government.

Personal life

In 2002, Waya married Onacona Waya. The couple has no children.
