The Buchthafen-class is made up of 2 landing platform dock ships, classified as amphibious assault ships by the Kivuian Navy. Their mission is to carry out amphibious warfare by transporting the bulk of the Kiuvian Marines. These ships have both a large helicopter flight deck capable of carrying either 4 heavy or 6 medium helicopters, they typically sail with 6 medium helicopters though. They also have a 885-square-meter (9,530 sq ft) well deck for large landing craft, such as the LC-A1, as well as a 1,000-sq meter (11,000 sq ft) space for up to 33 main battle tanks or 130 amoured personnel carriers.
The ships are armed with two Oerlikon Contraves 20 mm (0.79 in) cannon but can be fitted with four. They also mount six Sippican Hycor SRBOC MK36 chaff launchers. The Buchthafen-class is equipped with KH 1007 air/surface search radar and AN/TPX-54 (V) Mk-XII (mode 4) identification friend or foe.
