2023 Örsöldöön 2

The Örsöldöön 2 (Uulgadzan: Өрсөлдөөн 2) is a professional league competition for association football clubs. It is the second-highest league in the Uulgadzar football league system. The Örsöldöön 2 was created in 1988 to allow for more clubs to be added to the Uulgadzar professional league system established by the National Football Union in 1980. It was founded with 20 clubs and expanded to 28 in 2008. In the beginning, it operated on a system of promotion and relegation with top teams being promoted to the Örsöldöön 1 and bottom teams being relegated to regional leagues, however with the addition of the Örsöldöön 3, bottom teams are no longer relegated to regional leagues.

The Örsöldöön 2 is played throughout a 27 week and 54 game season where 2 games are played per week. Two games are played between each club. The top two clubs at the end of the season are eligible for promotion and the top three through six clubs participate in a promotion playoff where the winning team is promoted to the Örsöldöön 1. The same is true for relegation, where the bottom two clubs at the end of the season are eligible for relegation and the bottom three through six clubs participate in a relegation playoff where the losing team is relegated to the Örsöldöön 3. The top three teams are eligible for participation in the Mountain Cup.

The winner of each season is awarded the Mountain Cup.

Competition format

Promotion and relegation

The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the other two professional leagues operated by the National Football Union, the Örsöldöön 1 and 3. Semi-professional clubs from regional leagues also receive the chance to enter the professional league system through the Örsöldöön 3, and vice versa. The top two clubs in each league, except the top league, automatically qualify for promotion and the top three through six clubs play in a promotion playoff where the winning club earns promotion. The same applies for demotion in all three leagues, where the bottom two clubs automatically qualify for relegation and the bottom three through six clubs play in a relegation playoff where the losing club is relegated to the lower league.
