The city is situated on Braantummel Bay, one of the busiest trading hubs in Ostlandet; the Rinnfriu River also runs through the northern portion of the city. Sturgeon is renowned for its landmarks, including the historic Remeana Fountain which has been registered nationally as a Clovic preservation site. It is also renowned for its prestigious economic district located downtown and various cultural districts throughout the city - Sturgeon is home to thousands of small businesses concerning art, fashion, modern culture, and food. Combined with the cities of Cairnryan and Strantun, and suburban communities, the city forms the Sturgeon Metropolitan Region, the wealthiest region in Hapatmitas.
The original settlers of Sturgeon were migrants from Paleocacher, eventually being assimilated by Hapatmitas. The settlement's name was originally St. Duncan, after the former patron saint of Hapatmitas. However, after the deposition of the House of Alpin, the Sturgeons were installed on the throne. The democratic government voted to rename the city into Fort Sturgeon, from the city citadel named after the bloodline. In 1942, the local government, with federal approval, simplified the city's name to Sturgeon. Despite the Odinburgh Revolution, the government opted to remain with the Sturgeon namesake, noting that the family had replaced their cruel predecessors. The bay where Sturgeon currently sits is still named after Saint Duncan, noting that there is a mass population of Duncanist Clovic believers in the city.
