Quintus Marcelloninus (Illyrian Iberic: Quinto Marçelonino, May 4, 1962 - January 18, 2019) was a New Illyrian writer known for his satirical work Nova Terja, a commentary on capitalism, and his book Duas Estratas, a commentary on the political contrast and duality of communist and capitalist nations. Quintus also taught at Etruricum University from 1989 to 1993 and his alma mater Trurnia University from 1993 to 2006, before moving into isolation in Roneo, near Tuscino, in Tuscinum SS. Quintus is considered one of the great political writers and thinkers of his generation and has been praised for his ability to utilize satire to display the fallacies of assorted political theories.

Early Life and Education

Quintus was born as the youngest son of Adrius Marcellonius, a lieutenant in the New Illyrian Armed Forces, in the small city of Nyapthus in mountainous Uralis SS. In his early years his family life was a strained from the decline of his parents' marriage, and in his autobiography he described the "longing disconnect stemming from the aching bonds of a failed marriage" which tore his family apart. Due to the illegality of divorce in New Illyricum, the family was forced to separate instead, and Quintus moved with his mother to Boreadis in Pensuliam SS. Quintus was diagnosed with depression at age 14 and struggled to fit in at Alephonia Academy which was a boarding school he attended in Alephonicum SS.

However Quintus excelled in his curricular studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude and he was admitted to Trurnia University, the most prestigious school in the nation, with a scholarship. Quintus moved to Trurnia to attend the university in 1980. Quintus majored in literature and political theory, and worked with professor Julaeno Pecelo, and graduated again Summa Cum Laude in 1983.

Quintus decided to move abroad after the death of his father shortly after his graduation, and decided to attend Central Amking University, located in Monsilva, for a postgraduate degree. Quintus found community in the newly formed Monsilvan Republic, which he praised in his essay on the 1978 Jingtianmen Square protests and massacre.

Career

Early Work

Quintus graduated with a joint degree in literature and political theory from Amking University in 1987 and returned back to Illyricum. Due to his history of depression Quintus was exempt from his military services allowing him to focus on his writing. New Illyricum was a changed nation, Lucius Carrezzi had won the 1985 New Illyrian marshall election and had instituted a series of oppressive laws which limited freedoms in New Illyricum and Quintus was one of many who began to speak out against this. Quintus heavily criticized Lucius' policies, most infamously in his 1988 essay "Nostra Repuliça Falerana" (Jackian: Our Failing Republic), which declared Lucius to be a "tyrannical capitalist oligarch stealing from the people." On account of this open criticism of the government, in addition to Quintus' participation in the 1988–92 New Illyrian protests, Quintus struggled to gain tenure as a professor and was unemployed and alone.

Quintus lived in Ponturbe outside of Trurnia in Ferunicum SS where tension between the government and protestors was at a height, and in January 1989 during a large riot breakout Quintus' apartment complex was burnt down, nearly killing Quintus. Shortly thereafter he managed to acquire a position as a literature professor at Etruricum University and moved to Etruricum.
