The PA-93 (Slavic: ПА-93), is a Bullpup assault rifle designed by Afon Plamya and manufactured by a Zloveshchiyan-based manufacturer, Plamya Building Plant.

The PA-93 came from the result of the assault rifle trials conducted in 1984 to 1993 called Project Kuski, in which the prototype of the rifle named PA-0146 at the time was selected as the replacement for the PA-64.

In PA-93, switching from one-round semi-automatic to fully automatic fire was accomplished by a secondary trigger located behind the main trigger. Squeezing the main trigger slightly fired off a single round. Pulling it back fully, so that it pressed the secondary trigger, enabled fully automatic fire. Switching to the two-round burst mode was done by operating a different lever.

History

Birthed from the desire of the Zloveshchiyan Defense Ministry's order to replace the PA-64, Afon Plamya and his company, Plamya Building Plant was called on to participate in a program known as Project Kuski, designing prototypes to be tested for the trial.

Tit Ilin's PI-89/PI-89M and Afon Plamya's design, the PA-0146, were the only two truly innovative designs in the Kuski competition that made it to the final testing round; all other 6 competitors that made it that far were based on more conventional designs. Afon's design could fire two-round bursts at 2000 rpm or sustained fire at 600 rpm. In the end, Afon's design won over Ilin's PI-89 because of better accuracy, less fouling, and overall reliability, becoming the PA-93 as it is known today.
