The Hapatmitasian Armed Forces (Cantuath: Feachdan Armaichte Hapatmanach; abbreviated FAH), formally known as the Collective Armed Forces of Hapatmitas, are the military forces responsible for the defence of Hapatmitas. They consist of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and, since 1996, the Coastguard.

According to the Constitution of Hapatmitas, the Armed Forces is "an institution responsible for unifying the command structure and operation of the four service branches." In practice, the Armed Forces is a higher institution than those of its service branches which are subordinate to it. The officeholder of commander-in-chief is concurrently the President of Hapatmitas.

As of 17 December 2023, the FAH has a strength of about 53,000 active-duty military personnel and over 340,000 reserve personnel. The Hapatmitasian military expenditure is ₴X AMOUNT; the military expenditure for Hapatmitas has always been the highest in the national budget since 1982. After the military conflict on Shaoyu Island in September 2023, the Government announced a pledge to invest the FAH an additional ₴1 billion in the national budget in the next fiscal budget year.

History

Establishment and merger

Before 1701, Hapatmitas heavily relied on foreign mercenaries and armies to help defend the country, although they still maintained a small standing army. After the accession of Alasdair V, the son of Alasdair IV, as monarch in 1698, a series of military reforms that the late king wasn't able to carry out were enacted. After three years of pushing out mercenaries from the army, Alasdair V formally proclaimed the establishment of a standing Imperial Army, consisting of Hapat soldiers only, and an Imperial Navy, which had exclusivity to their ships rather than the use of converted merchant ships.

In 1909, the Imperial Army and Imperial Navy formally merged to form His Majesty's Imperial Armed Forces.

Post-monarchy military

After the end of the Hapatmitasian monarchy in 1924, the armed forces were converted into the National Defence Forces by the government of the Republic. During the Hapatmitasian Civil War, the forces were disintegrated, with many of them splitting into the respective factions of the war. In 1950, following the liberal Reformist victory in the civil war, it was re-integrated as the Collective Armed Forces.
