The national flag of the Monsilvan Republic (Monsilvan: 山共和國國旗), also known as the Republic Flag (Monsilvan: 共國旗) consists of a red field with a vertical blue stripe near the left side; charged with white sun with 12 triangular rays near the right side; said symbols symbolize the sun and rays of light emanating from it, respectively.
The flag was originally designed by the anti-monarchy group, Society of Republicans, in 1855, but looked like the present-day civil ensign. In 1902, the Society of Republicans was dissolved in favour of the creation of the National Party of Monsilva. When the National Party won the 1913 Monsilvan general election, they planned on changing the flag of Monsilva. However, they were unable to achieve this as the Autumn Coup d'état overthrew the National Party government in 1923.
The Communist Party of Monsilva changed the flag of Monsilva only 2 months after taking control of the government. The new flag was a red field with a white stripe along the bottom and a hammer and sickle with the sun and 12 rays above it nearing the top-right of the flag. It remained the flag of Monsilva until 1978, the end of the Monsilvan Revolution, when the current flag was adopted by Xu Zhou-da.

History
The white sun and 12 triangular rays was used as a symbol of hope and commonly used by revolutionaries during the Kingdom of Great Shan, and was used on the flag of the Liberate Monsilva Movement who were the main opposition to the Shan during the Monsilvan Civil War in the 1820s. The symbols were used on the Kingdom of Monsilva flag on a red background with yellow stripes on either side representing the monarchy. The sun and rays became such an important symbol in Monsilva, that even the communist government that took over after a coup d'état, used it on their flag alongside the hammer and sickle.
During the 1970s Monsilvan Riots, the Kingdom of Monsilva flag was commonly used to show opposition to the communist government. However, by 1975, an alternate version of the flag was introduced which is what the flag of Monsilva has become now. It is unknown who originally created the design, but it was almost immediately adopted by the Monsilvan Revolutionary Army as their flag. When the MRA won in 1978, it was adopted as the official flag of Monsilva. The blue stripe is said to represent the democracy established after the revolution.
The 1983 Federal Constitution for the Monsilvan Republic explicitly defines the positioning, ratio and usage of the flag. There are also 4 variations of the national flag: the Red ensign which is used on civilian vessels; the Blue ensign which is used on government vessels; the White ensign which is used on naval vessels; and the presidential standard which is only used by the President of Monsilva.
