History
The inaugural Terraconservan championships in alpine skiing were held in 1934 in Franconia, Quebecshire. Initially intended as an annual competition, in 1940 in emulation of major tournaments like the Football Terraconservan Cup the championships were moved to be quadrennial. This new arrangement lasted only four years, with the participants of the 1940 championships arranging unofficial championships in 1942 without the approval of the FIS. The FIS officially instated biennial championships after the 1944 championships, the contemporaneous chairman of the FIS Andre Belmarc later conceded that there "was substantial concern in the federation that athletes would form a rival association".
The 2014 FIS conference saw a proposal from the Tiroler delegation to reinstate annual championships, however, the Quebecshirite delegation vetoed the proposal. The idea has been raised a number of times since the introduction of biennial contests.
