Early life
Ernest Pyle was born on 10 June 1976 in Chicajun, Paleocacher. He attended the Capital City Institute of Social and Political Sciences where he graduated in 1998 with degrees in journalism, political science, and foreign language studies.
Career in journalism
He became well-known in Paleocacher as an investigative reporter in the decade of the 2010s. His blog has over three quarters of a million followers. He became an investigative reporter and foreign correspondent in 2015 and primarily worked in Bostonia, Quebecshire, reporting on stories related to the Terraconserva Council of Nations. He also has done stories on ongoing civil conflicts in Lyoa and Creeperopolis.
Investigation in Terranihil
In April 2020 Pyle began an investigation into allegations of ethnic cleansing in Terranihil following a failed TCN resolution to draw attention to the matter. Over the course of six weeks he discovered that a chemical company in Koryo, Dongwha Chemicals, had made shipments of toxic agents to the Terranilian government. He also interviewed dozens of escapee and refugee Malgans residing in Greater Sacramento. Following these investigations he entered the country of Terranihil where he interviewed numerous persons including alleged current and former members of the staff of the Soislaan camp. He launched a drone over the camp which obtained twenty five minutes of footage before he was spotted. He fled the country and returned to Paleocacher. He published An Exposé of Conditions in Malgan Re-Education Camps. His investigation has brought renewed calls for an international investigation and has triggered protests in several countries around the globe.
Assassination attempt
Legal issues
Following the June assassination attempt, Ernest Pyle went into hiding under government protection. On September 1st 2020 a meeting took place between Pyle, his employers, his attorneys, and representatives of the Paleocacherian Departments of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney General of Paleocacher. The Paleocacherian government was being asked to extradite Pyle to Terranihil to stand trial as a spy and the Quebecshirite and Gandoran governments were talking about sanctioning Paleocacher as a means of pressuring for his extradition. In a strategic move to pre-empt foreign trial, the parties agreed that Pyle would plead guilty to multiple offenses which would cover his actions at the Soislaan Camp and prevent an espionage trial under double jeapordy. Pyle was charged with the misdemeanor offenses of unauthorized photography of a secure facility and trespassing on a secure facility under a law granting the Paleocacherian government universal jurisdiction to prosecute its own citizens for crimes they commit overseas. Pyle agreed to a sentence of 270 days of incarceration with 210 of those under house arrest. As a result of his guilty plea and subsequent imprisonment protests have took place throughout the country in opposition to the incarceration of a national hero. Subsequent Developments
Following the legal issues, Pyle for the next twelve months acted as an activist, appearing on television and liaising with PaleoAid to help grant asylum to more refugees from Terranihil and he traveled to Moorland and other countries to advocate for the expansion of refugee programs there. Pyle retired from reporting and took a job teaching political science and international politics at the University of Paleocacher Liberty City.
