34-Day War (Reykani: 34 daga stríð), also known as the Reykani Civil War was fought from 4 July 1949 to 7 August 1949 between the Reykani Socialist Republic and the State of Reykanes. Socialist Republic was the Communist faction, originally created in February of 1949, the State of Reykanes was the Far-right Fascist faction, which rose up on the 4th of July, which initially started the conflict. The conflict is viewed as a continuation of the 1949 Revolution, which ended one month before. It resulted as a struggle between Communism and Fascism after both won the revolution. The war has been seen as big as the revolution itself even if it was shorter, since the conflict saw use of tanks and planes respectfully, unlike in the revolution where the first quarter was mostly partisan activities.

The Nationalist Party (Flokkur Þjóðernissinna) was kicked out of the 1949 election, where the Communist Party relegated a hospital fire to them a day before the election. They used the moment to establish the State of Reykanes in southern Reykanes. At the outbreak of the war the State of Reykanes engulfed most of southern Reykanes and some disconnected pockets in the north, with Cape Nátfari being the proclaimed capital. The war started with a failed coup on 4 July 1949, "Greyshirts" failed to capture Brynjólfur Bjarnason, who was visiting Cape Nétfari for a victory march. The first military incursion was when the Fascists attacked a army barracks.

Communists

The Reykani Socialist Republic or the Communist Faction is one of the winning sides of the 1949 Revolution. Originally a Guerrilla faction, eventually proclaimed the socialist republic on 18 February 1949. They had the biggest standing army on the island. At the beginning of the war, the Communists outnumbered the Fascists five to one on the front.

Fascists

The State of Reykanes, generally called as the Fascist Faction were defined by their far-right policies, strong anti-communism sentiment and fought for One nation, One people idea, where they wanted to push out other groups from the island and make it "Reykanes" only. The Nationalist Party held no power in the government as they were a banned party and most of their movement consisted of partisan activities before and during the 1949 Revolution. Their number grew through out the year, reaching a all time high in June of 1949.

Course of the war

First Phase (4 July 1949-20 July 1949)

The war started in the morning of 4 July 1949 at about 9:00 when the "Greyshirts" conducted a failed coup to capture Brynjólfur Bjarnason, who was visiting Cape Nátfari for a victory march in a couple of days in the city central. He was attacked in his private residence but he managed to escape and hurried back to Hafnir. Soon after that at midday, the order was given out to start the uprising and invade as much land before the Communist high command could organise a counter attack. The first military incursion was near Cape Nátfari, when the Fascists attacked a army barracks, starting Battle of Cape Nátfari. The defenders were caught in a surprise and were defeated leaving the city open. The city was besieged and with insider rebel cells, the local garrison ran out of supplies and were forced to surrender. The Headquarters was established in the city and was proclaimed as the capital. The relief force was slowly organised as most of the main army was stationed further north, preparing to invade the Salisfordian held White Islands, which the Fascists used their extra time to invade as much possible of land. The State of Reykanes reached it's greatest extent on 8 July 1949. During that another two battles occurred, on the first local garrisons were ordered to stop them, however It was won by the Fascists in the Battle of TBD. In the Battle of TBD, the second battle, a militia in a disconnected pocket was fighting to connect with the main force, where a armoured Train was stolen and used to defend their escape and won the battle when they merged with the main force. It is known as one of the greatest heists in the history of Reykanes.
