The Z-Day 11 response was the multiregion coordinated effort by The League's community to keep regions The League and Concord from being overrun by zombies during the 2022 iteration of NationState's annual Z-Day event. The simulated zombie pandemic ran from 30 October 2022 5 PM CDT to 1 November 2022 5 AM CDT.

Background
Originally an April fools prank, Z-Day it was first described by site owner Max Barry in 2013 as "a mild uptick in infection rates of a flu-like illness"- Since then, the simulated zombie pandemic has since become an annual Halloween event. From the first iteration, Barry has said that he believes "since everybody would be better prepared for the apocalypse" the site should "ramp up the potency of zombie exporters", which has been reflected in the increasing difficulty of each year.[1]
In 2022 with the creation of the manual recruitment program and the additional region of Concord, the NationStates community of The League spanned across over 1000+ nations, creating new logistical challenges in both dealing with the zombie disaster itself, as well as effectively communicating to gameside residents how to best prepare.[2][3]
Preparations
Council Resolution Bill #21-A Preparedness Provisions Act was drafted on 25 September 2022 and was voted into effect by the Council of the Republic as Council of the Republic Law 34.[4] The legislation called for the creation of "a committee of concerned citizens" at the beginning of October, and on 10 October 2022 the Z-Day 10 [sic] Taskforce was opened to signup requests. A total of eight people signed up.
An official guide, Do Not Panic- Prepare, was published in both Concord and The League on 28 October 2022 as the event drew near, outlining the basic mechanics of Z-Day and steps nations could take to protect their citizens.[5]
Performance
Demographics
The League had a participation rate of around 19.1%, with the ~153 active participants breaking down further as 92% cure, 6.5% exterminate, and 1.5% embrace. A total of 39 nations were banned from The League for Z-Day related reasons.[6] Concord had a participation rate of around 12.8%, with the ~60 active participants breaking down further as 81.6% cure, 11.3% exterminate. One nation was ejected from Concord as the result of Z-Day related reasons.[7]
Results
The League was fully cured of the zombie infection while Concord remained 0.7% infected by the end of the event.
Leaderboard rankings
Region | Most Survivors | Most Survivors & No Zombies | Most Survivors + No Quarantine | Most Zombies | Most Dead |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
The League | 25th ( 44) | 18th ( 23) | 5th ( 15) | - | - |
Concord | - | - | 25th | - | - |
The League improved many of its Leaderboard rankings through its better performance, while Concord established itself on one leaderboard for its first Z-Day.[8][9]
Awards
The Consulate awarded the Z-Day 11 Service Medal to Raziel, Spode, Ecalpa, Moorland, and Yixius for curing, coordination, and graphic design efforts during and before the event.[10]
