In Tirol, the standard time is Maran Time. Daylight saving time is observed in Provinzia Ziller from the nearest Sunday to the northward equinox until the nearest Sunday to the southward equinox. Historically Maran Time was based upon the mean solar time in the city of Maran, but since 1901 it has just become the term for the time offset of TMB–01:00 employed in Tirol.
History
The Kingdom of Tirol adopted Maran Time on 1 January 1890, based upon the mean time as determined by the University of Maran Observatory. After the passage of Maran Time, railways, post offices and clock towers across Tirol were required to use Maran Time. At the end of the Tiroler Civil War, the Ziller delegation constitutional convention of 1893 negotiated the addition of a form of daylight saving time to the legal framework, and Provinzia Ziller adopted Ziller Summer Time (Ladin: Ziller Temp Isté; ZTI).
