Rioberia is a nation on the continent of Waldoccia.

History

The Tribe of Riobi

Early Riobi people were nomadic and lived off their land. They were subsistence farmers, cultivating what they needed for a season before moving on. They were heavily reliant on their faith in elemental gods, connected with nature that allowed them to survive. They preferred simple and contained life, nothing in excess. The transition to the Riobi Empire was mainly to restore relations with bordering tribes after the fall of the Waldoccian Empire. The emergence of major city states contrasted with their simplistic agrarian lifestyle.

The Riobi Empire (466-501)

The Riobi Empire emerged out of the ashes of the Waldoccian Empire, adopting Gesé culture over the Terra-speaking cultures. Conquering the City of Janus in 466, as the Waldoccian Empire had done before, they established their Empire as a way to spread their cultural influence more than for the goal of obtaining power. In 501, they absorbed the City State of Toran, an Adasiatic-influenced City State, more developed but unique culture, speaking Gesé, uniquely tied to natural elements, but developing and embracing the city-focused industry boom. The City State of Toran had a far more complex and developed governing system, and almost immediately convinced the Riobi tribal leadership to take control of the Empire for themselves. This was the end of the Riobi Empire.

The Toruse Empire (501-569)

The Toruse Empire was founded with the Riobi Empire's absorbsion of the City State of Toran in 501. A complex society, adopting both urban and agrarian methods of living. They absorbed the City State of Jualusia in 542, their first Terra-speaking tribal city state. With this, they adopted their Gods of emotion as opposed to natural elemental Gods, they embraced self expression and feelings as a belief system. The Toruse Empire was a true conglomeration. Harnassing the power of the fisheries and ports, the Toruse Empire branched out and established the City of Toruse in 569 on the Volnerian continent, in the Kathma region. The establishment of this city led to the refounding of their Empire, renamed the Torunian Empire.

The Torunia Empire (569-685)

The Torunia Empire was a refounded iteration of the Toruse Empire, after the colony city state of Toruse was founded in 569 in the Kathma region of Volneria. With this new abroad port city, the Torunian Empire began to rise to dominance in Waldoccia. Export of goods to Volneria led a major rise in their influence. Adopting many Adasiatic elements, Waldoccian-Adasiatic culture became intermixed in many ways. In 613, they absorbed the city state of Chillano. Between 613 and 682, they began expanding their influence across continents. They expanded to what is now Amberia Island as well as establishing port cities along the Tanglao continental coast. The Toruse city state expanded far into the Kathma region, creating a unique cultural amalgamation, independent from the Empire itself. In 682, Kathmantu sacked Toruse and pushed out the Torunia Empire's influence. This launched a series of overseas territory losses and coincided with massive wildfires sweeping across the Empire, destroying most of the civilization. The Empire's capitol was moved south to Solas (Porto Alegre). The Empire officially fell in 685.

State of Riobi

Kingdom of Rioberia (1209-1524)

Port Amberia founded (1290)

With the Krystallic Empire's founding of Port Amberia, the Kingdom of Rioberia realized their necessity to bring back naval dominance in the region. They established strong trade ties with both Huangul and Xinglao, using their northern port cities to grow their economy and export their agricultural goods.

Port of Rioberia War and Independence (1422)

The Krystallic Empire's Port of Rioberia was a neusance for Rioberia and the citizens of Portview Echo, which has long-rejected their Riobi roots, adopting more Amberian-Krystallic identity. They agreed with Rioberia to obtain independence but agreed to massive trade access for Rioberia if the Kingdom assisted in their independence. The Riobi believed the deal would ultimately be beneficial for them, not realizing the amount of independence and autonomy the future nation would assert.

Rioberian-backed Tirrenian civil war (1492-1499)

The Riobi were reeling from the loss of port cities and the aggressive autonomy asserted by Portview Echo in the north and decided to capitalize on known internal strife within Tirrenia. They funded a civil war, ultimately destroying Tirrenia as it was known, pushing the new Democratic Republic of Tirrenia south and absorbing most of the former state's territory. The Kingdom of Rioberia now had almost full access of the entire eastern seaboard and its port cities.

Portoan Civil War (2001-2013)

The Portoan civil war broke out with the wine riots of 2001. Vineyard workers felt exploited by both the regional government and the Rioberian government. The regional government claimed no authority to adjust the issues. Portoan culture was quite distinct and the vineyard workers' launched a strike in 2001. By the end of the 2001, with no success, the workers ignited their vineyards on fire, costing the local economy millions of dollars in revenue. The Portoan National Front decided to takeover the movement, encouraged the workers and riots to take the fight inland, to protect Portoan. Riots broke out in many Rioberian cities, only to be quickly snuffed out by the National Police of Rioberia.

The war escalated in 2005 with the discovery of Piranialand financial support to Portoan. The Portoan National Front's built up army was quick and calculated, leading Rioberians to suspect outside influence. The Tirrenian government declared neutrality in the issue, but in 2007, joined the Rioberian side to put down the rebellion; concerned a new democratic nation on their border would inspire a Tirrenian revolt against their authoritarian government. With the Waldoccian continent burning, the agricultural economy of the world was hurting even more than it had been because of the Great War.
