Colus is a bat-and-ball game between two teams of either 4, 6, or 8 players which originated in New Illyricum. The objective of the game is to hit the ball (Sophorus) across the opposing team's goaline below a four yard high post. Both teams compete until 3 goals are scored by one side, however unless the winning team has a margin or two or more goals than the opposing team, the game continues until either team has a two goal lead. After each goal, the team scored upon must attempt a kick off across the opposing teams goaline, however the team being kicked to is allowed to block the ball to prevent a score. On a kickoff, the kicking off team cannot hit or kick the ball until the team being kicked to has touched the ball.
