Administrative divisions of Tirol
The administrative divisions of Tirol are subnational administrative units of Tirol; they are composed of a nested hierarchy of country subdivisions. The first level of subdivision consists of five provinzia (provinces) and one special autonomous district.
Tirol is a unitary state with four tiers of sub-national government. Provinces are the highest tier, of which there are five, each headed by a provincial government. Provinces are composed of two forms of districts, district commissions, and statutory cities which have merged municipal and district government. Districts are in turn composed of municipalities or comuns which are further divided into rural and urban divisions. The final and smallest division are fraziones (in all provinces) or ridles (in most of Val Gherdëina).
