Utanvegar Hf. (Off road LLC in Jackian) is a Reykani manufacturer of Luxury automobiles, heavy road vehicles and offroad vehicles, based in Laugleós, Reykanes. The company was founded in 1945 by Ólafur Jónsson.
Utanvegar Hf. holds the distinction of being the first domestic automobile company in Reykanes. In its early years, the company not only focused on manufacturing domestic automobiles but also produced foreign automobiles, primarily sourced from Salisfordian companies, within its factories till 1949. It was nationalised under the Communist era between 1949 and 1957. After 1957 the company continued to produce for foreign companies, like Crabota and Chienrú.
Founded with the primary aim of catering to the domestic market, Utanvegar's initial target audience comprised individuals residing in rural countryside areas, a demographic that continues to be its main focus to this day. The company specializes in the production of trucks designed for a wide range of tasks, meeting the diverse needs of its customers. While Utanvegar has explored the concept of luxury automobiles and buses, its ventures in these areas have seen limited success. The company's off-road trucks remain its flagship products, enjoying significant popularity within Reykanes. Currently, Utanvegar operates its sole production plants within Reykanes, with limited sales in foreign markets but since 1995, it has returned to produce automotive parts for foreign companies. The company's commitment to meeting the demands of the local market, coupled with its expertise in truck manufacturing, has positioned Utanvegar Hf. as a prominent player in the automotive industry within Reykanes.
