New Illyricum, officially know as the United Socialist States of New Illyricum (In Illyric: Unitii Provinciae de Nova Illyrica) is a decently sized nation on the southwest peninsula of the Ecros continent. To the south lie Andaluszia and Dansin, to the east New Illricum is bordered by Paviltulrilor, the north border of New Illyricum borders Terranihil, and to the west lies the Andaluzian Sea. New Illyricum's city of Port Ignatius is the largest city in the country, however the cities of Turis and Eturicum both rival it in size.

History

The Italic States Period (2500-1500 BC)

Around 2500 BC the first tribes came together to form several major settlements, such as Turis and Etruricum. Around these cities several kingdoms arose and fought. Little is documented of this era, however it is known the Illyric language and writing system arose around the city of Illyricus circa 1800 BC. Other languages and cultures, such as Etrurii and Italic.

The Quad-States Period (1500 BC - 1012 AD)

By 1500 BC most of the smaller kingdoms had unified through wars and diplomacy, coming together to form four major kingdoms; Illyricum, Italia, Romia, and Etruria. The Kingdom of Romia, based around it's capital of Romus, was the largest and strongest of the kingdom's, however it was racked by the Romian Civil Wars between 362-709 AD. Romia then lost most of it's power, land and influence. The four kingdoms remained mostly peaceful to each other, and outside of the Romian Civil Wars the era is mostly remembered by historians as an era of peace and learning.

The Great War (1012-1756 AD)

In 1004 AD tensions began to rise between the four nations over the region of Secundia, which was a small region that lay between the four kingdoms. Ultimately tensions sparked and in 1012 AD a war began between Romia and Italia over ownership of Secundia. While Illyricum and Etruria tried to stay neutral, in the end they joined the war on opposing sides in 1014. Despite seven armistices in 1059, 1102, 1289, 1400, 1406, 1416, and 1636, the war raged for 744 years without end. The war claimed over 70 million lives and historians estimate that 2 out of every 3 soldiers were killed in the war. The war ultimately ended in the Treaty of Secundia in 1756 between the Italic-Etruscan Alliance and Illyricum. The war destroyed the region and laid waste to it's cities and towns.

The Unification (1756-1806 AD)

With the kingdoms of Italia and Etruria struggling with revolts, poverty, and unrest as a result of the Great War the leaders of these kingdoms, Mensis III & Arbergarst I decided to unify and form one nation of Italia-Etruria in 1788. The kingdom of Illyricum ruler, Ignatius I, saw this as an act of war and invaded that same year. The War of Illyric Unification, as Ignatius called it, lasted until 1806 when he conquered the last Italic-Etruria city of Brundis after a three year siege. Ignatius was declared the King of New Illyricum and he renamed the city of Illyricus to Port Ignatius.

"'The End of the Kingdom of New Illyricum (1806-1828)'"

By 1818 the aging King Ignatius I had already lost most of his power, and the kingdom's de facto ruler had become Marshall Titus Gracius Phillipus. Phillipus was named co-King in 1824, before Ignatius ultimately ceded the throne in 1828 due to his own poor health and old age. Immediately upon the end of Ignatius' reign Phillipus declared the end of the Kingdom of New Illyricum and announced his plan for a new government.
