Corruption is an important development challenge that poses economic and social costs in Karimun. Interference in public laws and policies for the sake of personal or private gain has weakened the competitiveness of Karimun in the past, the government has tried its best to eradicate corruption from its roots with better character-based education, starting campaigns from the rural about the negative effects of corruptions, strengthening Corruption Eradication Commission's power to investigate cases by the passing of 2019 Anti-Corruption Law in December 2019, and sometimes on the special scenario involving the military, NGOs, and etcetera.

Background

Cultural

KKN is a familiar word for Karimunese, old and young, KKN is a karimunese acronym for Corruption, Collusion and Nepotism. KKN has been in Karimunese culture since even before the formation of the federation.

Nepotism is the most common from three, due to Karimunese importance of family values, it's very common. People will trust their family more than others, they will give the positions to their family first then others.

Economy
