vehicle registration plates (Reykani:skráningarmerki ökutækja) are alphanumeric plates in a standardized format, issued officially by the district authorities to motorized vehicles of Reykani residents. The legal requirements for these licence plates are laid down in a federal law. All motorized vehicles participating in road traffic on public space, whether moving or stationary, have to bear the plates allotted to them, displayed at the appropriate spaces at the front and rear.
Current design
In 1975, the current design of registration plates was adopted by the Reykani government due to the increasing population and made standard across all regions. The plate consists of a white rectangular metal plate (520 mm × 110 mm), commonly made out of sheet aluminum, with black embossed digits on a white reflective background. Motorcycle registration plates must range between 110mm and 200mm in height. The plate consists of a single letter which is randomized between the 32 characters of the Reykani alphabet and 6 digit of numbers spamming from 000001 till 999999. On the right it includes the country code and flag and between the letter and 6 digit code it includes the municipality code and flag where the car was registered.
