Sean Panzram Macready (birth unknown), more commonly known as The Phantom (Cantuath: An Taibhse; pronounced: [an ˈt̪aiph.s̪ə]), is a Paleocacherian serial killer who is known to have murdered six people in six different countries since 2011.

Murders

Confirmed murders

The first murder attributed to The Phantom took place in Liberty City, Paleocacher on 10 July 2011. Sixteen year-old Ellamay Dugan was abducted while biking home from school in the city's Bohan district. Her body was found the next morning in Bataraidh Park. Police investigating the murder found an hourglass pendant next to her body, but little physical evidence. Despite investigation numerous suspects and dozens of leads, the case went cold and was shelved in September 2011.[1]

The second murder attributed to The Phantom was committed on 4 November 2012 in Iornbarron, New Gandor. An elderly man named Horation Clemms walking his dog was struck over the head with a rock in a city park. A witness reported a figure wearing dark clothing left the park shortly afterward. Police found an hourglass pendant at the crime scene, but the connection to the other homicides wasn't made until 2021.[2]

The third known murder attributed to The Phantom occurred in Gjorka City, Gjorka on the night of 23 June 2016. Jeff Keiszler, a film actor and millionaire philanthropist was having work done on his manor house. The freshly repainted roof had a road flare thrown on it shortly after ten pm. The inflammable undercoat of paint that the work crew had applied to the house's roof burned quickly and in only a few minutes the entire structure burned to the ground with Keiszler inside of it. Investigators determined the cause of the fire was arson and they discovered an hourglass pendant left behind in the home's front yard.[3]

A fourth murder attributed to the suspect took place in Tanjō, Reia on the 23 September 2019. A female escort, Shimabukuro Hanako, was found suffocated in a motel room in the city's Adachi district. The investigation determined she had been taken to the room by a middle aged man using the alias of Mr. Aries, dosed with melatonin and had a plastic bag placed over her head. An hourglass pendant was found in the motel room.[4]

The fifth known murder attributed to the serial killer took place sometime between 29 and 30 January 2021. On 9 February, a Quebecshirite flagged sailboat was found adrift off the Paleocacherian territory of Nara Island. An investigation determined the boat, the Le Phoque, had a murder victim on board. The victim, a Quebecshirite man named Charles LeBorg had last been heard from on 29 January. He had been shot once in the head and an hourglass pendant was found on the boat. Based on the last sited location of the victim's boat it is believed to have been in international waters just outside of Groffenord's exclusive economic zone.[5]

The sixth known murder was discovered on 4 March 2021. In Cispaltania, Montcrabe police found the body of a missing rideshare driver, Marius Acsandro who had been reported missing on 2 March. His body was found in a duffel bag sunk in a lake outside the city. The authorities announced a ₤100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the killer. An hourglass pendant was found inside the duffel bag with the body.[6]

Current status of investigations

The international investigation wasn't begun until 2021, when Paleocacherian law enforcement discovered the body of 43 year old Quebecshirite bank manager Charles LeBorg aboard his sailboat, the Le Phoque. He had been shot in the back of the head with a .38 caliber revolver of Creeperian manufacture Figueroa Arms Company. The murder was discovered on 9 February but had taken place on 29 or 30 January. The ten plus days of exposure to the elements degraded any physical evidence from the crime scene so all the authorities had to go on was the presence of an hourglass pendant. The hourglass pendant in question is a symbol of death and/or the afterlife in the Clovity religion, with one white side and one black side of the hourglass on a grey background. The presence of this pendant led the authorities to believe that the killer is Paleocacherian or had recently traveled to Paleocacher. Special Agent Franklin Dugan led the investigation. The presence of marks made by an axe or hatchet in the hull of the victim's boat suggest that the killer attempted to sink it but failed or was scared away. After speaking with the victim's family they reported that he last interacted with a Groffenordic fishing boat called the Phalanx. Witnesses aboard the Groffenordic fishing boat reported seeing the victim's boat tied up alongside a Hanabisihi motor yacht with three blue and three green stripes painted in a pattern along the hull. The Paleocacherian authorities put out an alert to TERRAPOL and to all coast guard agencies in the Kivu Ocean area. They also put out a request for information on murders where an hourglass pendant was found. The first murder to be linked to the LeBorg case was the case from Montcrabe that took place in the beginning of March.

Over the next several months homicide investigators from multiple different agencies corresponded on the incidences, finally culminating in an informal conference at TERRAPOL headquarters in Bostonia, Quebecshire on 2 August 2021.

TERRAPOL conference and apprehension

On 2 August 2021, an informal conference was held at the TERRAPOL offices in Bostonia, Quebecshire. Homicide detectives from six countries attended the conference to compare notes on the case. Sûreté du Québecshire Lieutenant Marie Dompnier chaired the meeting which was also attended by Paleocacherian BFS Agent Mark Dugan, a Reian Police Inspector named Hakana Komai, a Gjorkan detective named Markelle Fultz, a Gandoran DS Leopold Rohan, and Montcraben Gendarme Captian Luigi Rotto. The informal conference lasted for most of the day an the investigators compiled evidence from six different murder cases to build a profile of the offender. After much information sharing it was determined that the suspected serial killer was a white male between 5'10" and 6' in height, approximately one hundred and seventy pounds, was traveling on a Hanabishi motor yacht, and was presumed to be traveling on a forged Paleocacherian passport. A TERRAPOL notice was sent to the border and customs authorities of all member nations.

On 11 August a Hanabishi KL-Sea Viper 60' motor yacht with a Sacramatian registration number entered the Dallhausey Marina in Hafnir, Reykanes. The pilot of the boat presented a Paleocacherian passport with the name Geoffrey Evans with a Liberty City address. Suspicious of the man, the Reykani harbormaster called the Paleocacherian embassy to double check the man's identification papers. Legal Attaché Michael O'Connell contacted the Paleocacherian BFS. Special Agent Mike Dugan was pulled off of his return flight to Paleocacher at the Hafnir Airport and authorities in Liberty City and Hafnir set up surveillance on the suspect and his apartment back home. The suspect was surveilled by local police for the next day and the harbormaster's office informed him that they had a fuel shortage and couldn't provision his boat. Suspecting that the local authorities were onto him and realizing he didn't have enough fuel to escape the island, the suspect began a backup plan to get rid of evidence. Under the cover of darkness on the night of 11 August, he fouled the propellers of the three police boats in the Harbor Patrol dock with wires and fishing nets.

Early in the morning of 12 August, a Paleocacherian BFS team with a search warrant raided the apartment listed as the home address of the passport holder Geoffrey Evans. In a false wall in the apartment the authorities discovered several firearms and a cache of ammunition. A firearms expert discovered that some of the bullets in the cache were from the same lot number of .38 caliber Figueroa bullets that had killed the victim Charles Leborg. With this substantial piece of evidence, the authorities had probable cause to arrest the suspect, Evans. A team of armed security from the Paleocacherian embassy and a squad of armed tactical officers from the Hafnir Constbulary raced to the marina. The Harbor Patrol however jumped the gun and several of their unarmed officers attempted to rush the boat. The suspect opened fire on them with a Remiston Arms 14RK semi-automatic rifle. By the time the tactical team arrived the man known as Geoffrey Evans was on the water and his boat was cruising away through the harbor. Several officers tried to launch the police boats but were hindered by the suspect's sabotage. Fortunately a Reykani Navy veteran had been on his boat nearby and witnessed the gunfight. He took the Paleocacherian and some Reykani officers onboard and they took off in pursuit of the suspect. A running gunbattle ensued for almost half a mile through the harbor before the suspect finally stopped his boat and was taken into custody. The boat was returned to the docks and the suspect driven to a Reykani holding facility. Reykani police searched the boat and found hourglass pendants, numerous firearms including the one that had been used to murder Charles Leborg, and other evidence. The suspect was identified by his fingerprints as a Paleocacherian national named Sean Panzram Macready.
