The Patriotic Song

The Patriotic Song (Gjorkan: An Amhrán Tírghrá) is the official national anthem of Gjorka adopted in 1991 to celebrate the establishment of the Federation of Gjorka. The piece was written by famous Gjorkan composer Theodore O'Lee and was based on a poem written by Earnan Mac Laochdha in 1832. The song has no official lyrics although the words of the poem are traditionally song along with it.

Gjorkan Lyrics Translation
𝄆 Tá nóta an trumpa ag fuaimniú os ard;
Go bródúil éiríonn an caoineadh cogaidh ar an gála;
Go loingis tá an each ag Dún na Séad ag teorainn,
A bheith páirteach sna scuadrúin tiubh ar ghleann glas Rosemont.
Ar, gach sléibhteoir,
Strainséirí chun eitilte nó eagla,
Rush chuig an gcaighdeán Red Hugh gan dabht.
Bonnacht agus Gallowglass,
Sluagh ó gach bealach sléibhe.
Arsa Erin aosta, "Gjorka Abú!" 𝄇
𝄆 Tá an Rí Ryan dár gcabhair ag dul ar aghaidh
Le go leor clan taoiseach is laochra.
Tá míle each bródúil ina gharda ag sileadh
‘Na teorannaibh cróga ó Bhruach na Banna:
Beidh go leor croí gearga
Faoina chóta poist.
Rachaidh an namhaid gan trócaire go domhain
Nuair a bheidh a chluasa ag glaoch,
Rugadh ar sciathán an ghaoth,
Cogaidh uaigneach Thír Chonaill, "Gjorka Abú!" 𝄇
𝄆 Ó thuaidh tá an mac tíre cogaidh ag caoineadh;
Fearless scuabann an t-iolar thar an mhachaire;
Tá an sionnach ar shráideanna na cathrach ag gol --
Díbrítear nó maraítear gach duine a chuirfeadh eagla orthu!
Beir greim ar an lámh in uachtar ort
Hackbut agus branda cath--
Íoc ar ais iad go léir na fiacha atá dlite chomh fada sin;
Norris agus Clifford go maith
Can of Tirconnell tell;
Ar aghaidh chun glóire -- "Gjorka abú!" 𝄇
𝄆 Naofa an chúis atá á chosaint ag Clann Conaill --
Na altóirí ar a nglúineaimid agus tithe ár n-aithreacha;
Gan trua an fothrach atá an namhaid ag síneadh --
Tá meán oíche dearg le tinte an creachadóir.
Ar aghaidh le hUa Domhnaill ansin,
An sean-chomhrac arís,
clann mhac Thír Chonaill,
Gach cróga agus fíor:
Déan an Ayak bréagach a bhraitheann
cruach dhíoghail Erin!
Stailc do do thír! "Gjorka Abú!" 𝄇
𝄆 Loudly the note of the trumpet is sounding;
Proudly the war cries arise on the gale;
Fleetly the steed by Baltimore is bounding,
To join the thick squadrons on Rosemont's green vale.
On, ev'ry mountaineer,
Strangers to flight or fear,
Rush to the standard of dauntless Red Hugh.
Bonnaught and Gallowglass,
Throng from each mountain pass.
On for old Erin, "Gjorka Abú!" 𝄇
𝄆 King Ryan to our aid is advancing
With many a chieftain and warrior clan.
A thousand proud steeds in his vanguard are prancing
'Neath the borderers brave from the Banks of the Bann:
Many a heart shall quail
Under its coat of mail.
Deeply the merciless foeman shall rue
When on his ears shall ring,
Borne on the breeze's wing,
Tír Chonaill's dread war-cry, "Gjorka Abú!" 𝄇
𝄆 Wildly o'er North the war-wolf is howling;
Fearless the eagle sweeps over the plain;
The fox in the streets of the city is prowling--
All who would scare them are banished or slain!
Grasp ev'ry stalwart hand
Hackbut and battle brand--
Pay them all back the debt so long due;
Norris and Clifford well
Can of Tirconnell tell;
Onward to glory--"O'Donnell abú!" 𝄇
𝄆 Sacred the cause that Clan Connell's defending--
The altars we kneel at and homes of our sires;
Ruthless the ruin the foe is extending--
Midnight is red with the plunderer's fires.
On with O'Donnell then,
Fight the old fight again,
Sons of Tirconnell,
All valiant and true:
Make the false Ayak feel
Erin's avenging steel!
Strike for your country! "Gjorka Abú!" 𝄇
