The Statistical Institute of Tirol, known locally as Statistica Tirol, is the official name of Tirol's National Statistical Office (Ladin: Statistich Istitut dl Tirol), the country's agency for collecting and publishing official statistics related to Tirol.
In 1972 a bill (national law for statistics) transformed the Ofize par Zensiménto y Demografich Carateristica (Office of Census and Demographics) into the Statistical Institute of Tirol (Statistica Tirol).
Statistica Tirol is an independent, not profit-seeking institution with public rights, which has the duty to fulfil services of the National Statistics, the GDI for example is calculated by the Statistica Tirol. The current Chief Statistician is Foda Chaikova.
Although Statistica Tirol was validated as Tirol's institution for statistics research, the organisation itself was already founded in 1829 as with the name 'Statistical Bureau'. In 1840 it was renamed the Directive for Administrative Statistics, in 1863 again the Royal Statistical Commission; in the Free State of Tirol from 1983 to 1972 it was named the Office of Census and Demographics, with a separate institution, the Statistical Office Innsbruck holding many of the competencies of the modern Statistica Tirol.
