The Ragasan Kingdom was a Vaktrian and Christian kingdom ruled by the Ragasan dynasty, founded by Ragas. Ragas led the revolt against the Romanyan Empire and the secession of northern Romanyan Dastivia in 515. The Kingdom was one of the earliest Christian nations, but had a major Astrian population. It engaged in multiple wars with its northern neighbor, the Septarban Kingdom. The Sagasan Kingdom was conquered by the Zuhraid Caliphate in 760.

History

In the late 5th century, conflict began to brew among several factions in Romanyan Dastivia. The Astrians wanted to end Christian state domination as the Septarban Kingdom had. Most Vaktrian Christians also wanted autonomy and an end to the persecution of miaphysites, but some still remained loyal to the Romanyan Empire. Civil war broke out between these groups in 503 when Astrians and Christians began detroying rival places of worship. The Romanyan attempts at intervention angered all Vaktrian factions. A general named Ragas rallied the support of the Vaktrian Church and took control of Dastivus in 511. He was then able to gain control of the northern half of Dastivia by 515, while Romanya held the south.

In 755, the Zuhraid Caliphate invaded the Ragasan Kingdom and conquered in 760.

Language

Vaktrian was the common and official language of the kingdom. The southern branch of Vaktrian was in its early stage of development. The Sasagan Kingdom used both the Vaktrian alphabet and Romanyan Iberic script. Iberic increased in use among commoners.

Religion

The ancestors of Ragasan dynasty were early adopters of Christianity and made it the kingdom's official religion. The dynasty promoted Christianity and built many churches that still stand today. Hostilities between Christians and Astrians increased due to internal Astrian revolts and war with the Septarban Kingdom. The Septarbans tried to restrict construction of Astrian temples but did not persecute Astrians to the degree that the Septarban Kingdom persecuted Christians. Astrians still composed about half the population, though they were rapidly converting, and there were still many powerful Astrian families.
