Provinzia Passeier (Commonly, "Passeierthal", Jackian: Province of Passeyr) is a province (Provinzia) in eastern Tirol. The capital of the Provinzia Passeier is Maran.

Geography

The state of Passeier is one of the five provinces of Tirol, spanning over the Passeier Valley and its tributaries. The neighbouring Provinzia Ziller stands to the north, while on the south Passeier has a border with the Provinzia Inn and Provinzia Adesc. With a land area of 348,335.73 km2 (134,493.18 sq mi), Passeier is the second-smallest province in Tirol.

The state's territory is located entirely within the Central Dolomita at the Brenner Pass. The highest mountain in the state is the Nantelòu, part of the Tofane range on the border with Provinzia Inn. It has a height of 7,797 m (25,581 ft), making it the highest mountain in the province.

Culture

The traditional form of mural art known as Lüftlmalerei is typical of Passeier villages and towns.

Kletzepann is a sweet bread made with dried fruits and nuts for the Advent season. Because it is associated with Passeier it is also known as "Passeyr Dried Fruit Bread".
