National progressivism

National progressivism (Vaktrian: prokresastıa farḍamast), also known as Virǎtism, is a ultranationalist political ideology based on the writings of Žapre Virǎt and associated with the National Progressive Party (PPF). It advocates for the advancement of the interests of Astrian Vaktrian people, viewing them as the primary native inhabitants of Terranihil. National progressivism seeks to progress Astrian Vaktrian culture.

Virǎt first formulated the ideology in the 1940s as a "middle path" or "third way" in comparison to communism and fascism. Virǎt opposed the rule of a decadent liberal elite he saw as typical in capitalist countries but rejected class conflict and thought hierarchies are an essential part of society in contrast to communists. National progressivism is heavily influenced by the functionalist sociology of Olivier Prévost, and thus views society as an organism which only functions effectively if each of its parts fulfill its role within the hierarchy, in contrast to the Marxist materialist analysis.

National progressivism is generally considered a far-right ideology because of its nationalism and hierarchical views, despite its proponents' rejection of the label and insistence on being "centrist". It has been considered totalitarian and fascist for its authoritarianism, use of political violence, and focus on maintianing an orderly society; however, national progressives reject the latter label for its association with the capitalist and Catholic aspects of Creeperian fascism. Virǎt advocated for strict meritocratic leadership, with central authority bested in a vanguard party which regulates the economy, media, press, and many other aspects of society. Virǎt supported a centralized economy in which the state guided production by coordinating with corporations and trade unions. He thought the domination of the market by private interests led to cultural degeneration and disrupted the social order necessary for the stability and progress of a nation.

National progressivism as formulated by later writers and as implemented by leaders of the PPF has varied and evolved over the decades. It has become more economically liberal, allowing more privately owned businesses and foreign investment, but still maintaining state intervention in the economy. The ideology has also generally become more pragmatic, allowing for economic and social policies that benefit the country and its ruling class though they may contradict the original tenants of Virǎt. National progressivism also incorporates aspects of Astrian esotericism based on Astrianism and Vaktrian mythology, though this element is usually seen as fringe among modern national progressives. National progressivism is the ideology of the National Progressive Party, the dominant political party in Terranihil, and thus essentially the state sanctioned ideology. Terranilian implementation of the nationalist aspects of the ideology has involved ethnic cleansing, genocide, eugenics, and restrictions on the practice of religious and ethnic groups.
