Minecraftia (pronounced: [maɪnˈkræft.i.ə]) is a minuscule region on NationStates with only one nation as of August 2021. The region was founded on 16 October 2011 by Soviet Canuckistan, who served as the region's founder until 16 February 2023, when both he and the region ceased to exist. On 12 April 2023, the region was refounded by Creeperopolis 5.

The region has been inactive for a long time and has only had one nation for most of 2021 and the region has not had a World Assembly Delegate since 2018. The positions of Vice World Assembly Delegate, President, Vice President, and Senator existed in the past, but have since been abolished. The peaks of activity in the region occurred between 2011 and 2014.

The region claims to be the "largest Minecraft-themed region" on NationStates, however, as of August 2021, the region only has one nation.

History

Minecraftia was established on 16 October 2011 by Soviet Canuckistan, the same day that Soviet Canuckistan was founded.[1][2] Soviet Canuckistan posted the first message on the Regional Message Board on the same day the region was founded, which simply read: "Welcome!"[2] The region opened its first embassy on 18 October 2011 with the region of Minecraft.[1]The first link to an external roleplay was posted on 20 October 2011 by Candova Commonwealth, however, the last post on the roleplay was posted only three days later on 23 October 2011.[2][3]

On 7 November 2011, Soviet Canuckistan suggested making the World Assembly Delegate an elected position, as he had been appointed as World Assembly Delegate on 21 October 2011, however, nothing came from the suggestion.[1][4] On 9 November 2011, the region came under an attack, however, the attackers and the result of the attack are unknown.[5] The attacker, however, may have been the region of Bacon Strips, as an embassy was rejected shortly after the attack as the region has an embassy with Bacon Strips.[6]

On 7 May 2012, Team Avolition allegedly spammed the Regional Message Board, resulting in Soviet Canuckistan suppressing many posts and the NationStates moderators intervening on behalf of Soviet Canuckistan.[7] Messages from 6 July 2012 by Soviet Canuckistan and Pipboy indicate that during the early history of the region, there were at least five government positions: Founder, World Assembly Delegate, Vice World Assembly Delegate, President, and Vice President.[8] The history of the three latter offices are mostly unknown.[8] Three positions of Senator also existed, indicating that a legislature once existed, however, it was abolished before 2013 and only one Senator was ever appointed.[8]

On 15 June 2014, Cosmic Explosion was elected as World Assembly Delegate by a vote of 2–0,[note 1] defeating Alexatian, who was appointed as Vice World Assembly Delegate.[9] The election was the first in the history of Minecraftia, and is the only known election to have occurred for the position.[9] Incoming World Assembly Delegate Cosmic Explosion made a speech regarding the election, stating:[9]

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Today is a monumental step forward towards a democratic, nonauthoritarian government.

The first step in creating a democratic government is to give the WA Delegate executive powers. I am a elected official who deserves this power.

The second step is establishing a Congress. This Congress will consist of two elected congressmen and the Vice Delegate will act as Speaker of the Congress.

Last, but certainly not least, is establishing a Supreme Court. However, this will only occur if we reach 25 nations by the end of my time as delegate.

That leads into my vision of a recruitment office, consisting of nearly every single nation in our region. I am asking our founder, Soviet Canuckistan to write a recruitment message to be sent to new nations and posted to recruitment friendly regions.

If we can accomplish those things in the next 100 days, we can be a successful region. But to accomplish these goals, we must act with ambition and give as much effort as possible. Together, I believe we can accomplish anything. These things may be difficult, to some maybe even impossible, but remember, we don't do these things because they're easy, but because they are hard.

I hope all of you think the same. One of my favorite phrases is Success breads Success. If we can accomplish one of my goals, we can accomplish two, and if we accomplish two, we can accomplish three. Once we get all of my goals accomplished, we start again. We make new goals, and we accomplish those we can accomplish anything.

Members of this region, I believe we can accomplish anything. Stand with me and we can accomplish anything.

That same day, he presented a bill which would be opened to a referendum:[9]

PROPOSAL 1A – EXECUTIVE POWER ACT

KNOWS the region has never given the WA Delegate executive powers in fear that WA Delegate would do something that would negatively affect the region.

ALSO KNOWS Cosmic Explosion was the first democratically elected delegate in the regions history.

NOTES that the point of democracy is to have democratically elected officials handle regional decisions.

PROPOSES the founder of this region give executive powers to the WA Delegate, effective immediately.

ALLOWS the founder to remove the powers if at anytime one of the following occurs.

1. Coup, which is defined as an a unauthorized change in leadership, whether that be the WA Delegate or another government position.

2. If more then three fourths of the region approves a recall.

3. If The Delegate ejects someone without founder approval.

HEREBY PROPOSES this bill to the members of the region. Passage requires a minimum of 51% of voters to approve the bill.

The bill failed on 20 July 2014 by a vote of 1–2.[11] A revised version was proposed on 26 July 2014, however, it also failed by a vote of 1–2.[12] On 6 August 2014, Skulking was elected as Vice Delegate.[13] On 25 September 2014, Legionnaries XIII overthrew World Assembly Delegate Alexatian, however, he was restored to power the next day.[14]

On 27 October 2018, Red End seized the vacant position of World Assembly Delegate, however, he was quickly overthrown the following day.[16] The coup d'état resulted in the closure of thirty-five embassies, and as of August 2021, no embassy has ever been reopened.[17] On 12 November 2018, Soviet Canuckistan ceased to exist, however, he quickly refounded.[17] On 5 March 2021, Trinindad and Bangova attempted to seize the vacant position of World Assembly Delegate, however, the coup d'état failed as Bangova withdrew early.[18]

On 16 February 2023, Soviet Canuckistan ceased to exist, and shortly afterwards, so did the region. The region's disappearance was not noticed until 12 April 2023, when it was refounded by Creeperopolis 5 to preserve the region's history.
