On 29 November 1984, the ship MN Paraíso del Río was stolen by armed gunmen of Creeperian Mafia. This ship was carrying 835 newly produced second generation Azavedo 8s. The cars were sold by Mara Salvatrucha at extorted prices as the second generation was not yet officially released. Additionally, though not known at the time, cocaine was hidden inside cavities within the cars, and Mara Salvatrucha sought to steal the cocaine as well. The incident delayed the release of the second generation by a month and cost Azavedo Empresa Automobilistica hundreds of thousands of escudos. The ship has never been found since, however, it is believed to lie somewhere at the bottom of Lake San Salvador.
