LFE Ecros 2021

The LFE Ecros Football Championship, less formally the Ecros Championship, is the primary association football tournament contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the League of Football Ecros (LFE), determining the continental champion of Ecros. The competition has been held every two years since 1957. Scheduled to be in the odd-numbered year it avoids clashing with the Terraconservan Cup every four years. The individual events are branded in the form of "LFE Ecros [year]".

The most recent championship, held in Tirol in 2021, was won by Tirol, who won the title after beating Malgax in the final at the Atempèpruch-Stadion in Innsbruck.

Format

The Competition

In the first championship in 1957, only four teams competed. From 1959, a league stage was introduced following the addition of two new teams. The four best teams in the league stage would proceed to the tournament stage. In 1963, two more Ecros teams joined the championship and the league phase was abolished and replaced by the group stage by which nations are initially divided into two groups, the two best nations in each group proceeding to the semi-finals. From 1969 until 2017 there were 9 teams participating, resulting in the addition of a Championship Round, in which the two advancing teams from each group and the host compete in a league format, with four of the five teams advancing to the knockout phase.
