English: Modern weapons on the Battleship New Jersey (BB-62). Each of the eight tubes on the left would hold a RGM-84 Harpoon Anti-Ship Missile, which had a range of up to 85 nautical miles. The weapon in the upper right is one of four Phalanx Close-In Weapons Systems on the U.S.S. New Jersey. These were used to defend against missiles and aircraft that were within a mile of the ship. The white dome contained radars and controls. The gun is a 20mm Gatling gun that would fire 3000 rounds/minute. Underneath the barrels is the magazine and feed system for ammunition. |
