The Eastern Ecros Free Trade Area, shortened EEFTA, is a trade bloc present in eastern Ecros. As of June 2023, this bloc has 5 members. It is governed by the Ampëz Charter, a founding document signed by all members. The EEFTA guarantees free movement of goods and partial free movement of people. The headquarters is located in Ampëz, Tirol. The governing organisation is the Eastern Ecrosian Council, shortened EEC.

History

Proposal

A proposal was made during the late 1960s between countries with smaller markets in Eastern Ecros to counterbalance the major economic giants, like Quebecshire. The founding members were all smaller developed and high wage economies that would otherwise prove vulnerable to the economies of scale available to Quebecshirite business.

On 19 September 1973 a convention was held in Freista, where officials from the invited countries came and discussed the ideas surrounding the trade bloc, and established a working group of senior diplomats from each state to construct a full treaty for the consideration of national legislatures. In July 1974, the working group put forward a proposal, which was signed by the heads of state of Svedonia, Tirol, Entropan, Eleutherios, Montesayette and Reykanes in Freista on 1 August 1974. It was ratified first by the National Council of Tirol, passing 242–94 on 10 August 1974. It was subsequently ratified by all other national legislatures. On 14 November 1974, the Freista Charter formally entered into force and EEFTA was created.

Objectives

The EEFTA strives for free trade, movement of Goods, People and Services throughout all member states, although each State shall maintain passport control, no Visa shall be required for an individual to travel from one member state to another. From outside, the EEFTA resembles its own state, a union of customs.

Structure

Headquarters of EEFTA, Ampëz, Tirol

The Freista Charter established the basis for the EEFTA structure, creating the Eastern Ecros Council, commonly known as the EEC. The council is the highest-level agency of EEFTA with the authority to conduct its policy, and responsibility for compliance with the objects and time frames set forth in the charter. The council consists of twelve members, two representatives are chosen by their respective national executives to represent their interests. All delegates serve a 6 month term. A meeting can be called whenever needed, with a minimum of one meeting per year.

Member States

EEFTA is composed of six sovereign member states: Eleutherios; Entropan; Montesayette; Reykanes; Svedonia and Tirol.
