In Gjorka, capital punishment is legal and used in the justice system but may only be sentenced by the Supreme Federal Tribunal. Since the Black Revolution and fall of the military dictatorship, the practice of capital punishment has steadily become restricted in Gjorka. Initially it was suspended by the National Assembly temporarily from 1972 to 1982 but was reinstated under President Rick Milhous as a punishment for murder. In 1994 the National Assembly passed a law restricting capital punishment only for crimes of mass murder or terrorism. Finally in 2005, President Joe Wallace passed the Regulation of the Death Penalty Act 2005 which gave the power of sentencing the death penalty only for the Supreme Federal Tribunal and only for for crimes of mass murder, terrorism or treason. Currently, both Gjorka United and Forward Gjorka support keeping the current death penalty though individual members have advocated for unrestricting or abolishing the penalty publicly. The Green Party, the Gjorkan Pirate Party and the Freedom Party all support abolishing the death penalty while the National Social Party supports using capital punishment for murder charges and giving sentencing back to lower courts.
