The Candle of Light is a book that comprises letters written by Ten Sulaisha published by Ten Kartika and John Frederman in 1857. The book was prominent in highlighting the inequality between genders, especially the suffering that Karimunese women have to carry; questions about morality and ethics; questions about some of the policies implemented at the time the letters were written; the importance of education for everyone; and the hypocrisy the aristocratic society believed in. Sulaisha's death, Kartika dan Frederman had a joint effort in collecting all of Sulaisha's letters and replies. All of those were published under the title, "Lettres d'une Princesse Javanaise" before it was republished again under the name "Lilin Cahaya".
