Black Butterfly Company simply known as Black Butterfly, is a media conglomerate founded by Tommy Papillion in 2045. The company entered into a partnership with the Icarisian Broadcasting Corporation in 2047 to produce a majority of their non-news radio, television, and print media.

In the same year of their partnership with IBC, the Lark family founded the Icarisian Media Group in order to separate their government-supported ventures and other business ventures. During the early years of the IMG's existence, it conducted most of the telecommunications, hardware, and broadcast systems operations. While this was IBC's strongsuit on a small-scale, the company was struggling to balance their priorities and found it difficult and expensive to operate the hardware and technological infrastructure side of their business. In 2049, the IMG ended their contract with Black Butterfly to produce content. With Black Butterfly indepenedent from IMG, they transitioned to operating in the tech infrastructure arena IMG was incapable of sustaining.

Black Butterfly opened their first manufacturing plant to produce telecommunications equipment and entered into a deal with the Icarisian Ministry of Infrastructure to reinforce existing telephone and wireless CCN networks both via cables and wireless.

While Black Butterfly was transitioning their business model, their production content was continually highly desired among the Icarisian population and was expanding internationally. IMG's grip on production and media consumption in Icaris was strong, Black Butterfly CEO Tommy Papillion saw international markets as the key to success - with IMG being largely seen internationally as distinctly Icarisian.

In 2054, Tommy Papillion established the BlackSource Genesis Corporation, which would become a holding company for Black Butterfly. He returned Black Butterfly to solely a production and content creation company while BlackSource Genesis became the flagship for telecommunications and technological infrastructure.
