The assassination of Agustín López Cabrera occurred on 9 October 1979 when armed gunmen of Mara Salvatrucha killed Agustín López Cabrera, the captain general of the Creeperian department of Zapatista. He as assassinated due to his anti-gang actions he had taken since he assumed office as captain general in July 1978. His assassination led to the beginning of the Mara War a few days later on 15 October 1979.
