Alturas El Burro (Creeperian: Ալտփրաս Ել Բփրրո), officially known as Barrio Alturas El Burro and commonly known locally as El Burro Heights, is a neighborhood in Adolfosburg. The neighborhood is considered to be the Lyoan district of Adolfosburg, and due to having a recent history of gang violence, high crime rates, and police raids, it has commonly been labeled as the most dangerous sector of Adolfosburg.

Alturas El Burro is bordered by El Rancho to the north and east, San Mateo to the south, and Chiapas to the west. The neighborhood is surrounded by Calle 3 to the north, Avenida Alameda to the east, Calle 7 to the south, and Avenida Rosa to the west.

Etymology

Translated, Alturas El Burro literally means The Donkey Heights. Its namesake is unknown, but the region has been called as such since the mid-1800s. The name was made official by the Creeperian government when the neighborhood was designated in 1950. The name is also a misnomer as it is not on or near any landform to allocate it the label "Heights;" Alturas El Burro is flat as are the surrounding neighborhoods.

History

Alturas El Burro was designated as a neighborhood in Adolfosburg in 1950 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. When the city was designated, the majority population was ethnically Creeperian, with a notable Lyoan minority.

After the 1979 Lyoan coup d'état, exiled Lyoan President James Sharokoh settled in the neighborhood which caused an influx of Lyoans across Creeperopolis to move to the area. During the Lyoan Civil War, the Creeperian government supported the Revolutionary United Forces (RUF) against the government of Laurent Tulossa, the General who overthrew Sharokoh in 1979. Tulossa hired an assassin from the Creeperian gang Mara Salvatrucha to assassinate Sharokoh in Alturas El Burro. The assassin arrived on 13 February 2000 but the attempt failed when he was himself killed by gang members of 18th Street Gang. The Lyoan population of the neighborhood were alarmed at the assassination attempt on Sharokoh and eventually formed the Los'Negros gang as a defense force against Mara Salvatrucha and protection force of Sharokoh.

Sharokoh died the following year on 2 July 2001, but Los'Negros continued existing. A funeral was held for Sharokoh on 8 July 2001 and nearly the entire Lyoan population of Alturas El Burro attended. Armed Los'Negros gang members were also present as a private security force to protect against Mara Salvatrucha aggression. Sharokoh's home was repossessed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs following his funeral and preserved as a National Historical Landmark on 13 July 2001. On 22 July 2001, Mara Salvatrucha initiated a shootout in the neighborhood, leaving 17 members of Los'Negros and 5 members of Mara Salvatrucha dead. The shootout initiated a riot which witnessed the deaths of 22 members of Mara Salvatrucha. The Creeperian Imperial Police suppressed the riot by 24 July 2001, and since then, Alturas El Burro was commonly known as the most dangerous part of Adolfosburg.

On 11 November 2011, a shootout occurred between members of Mara Salvatrucha and Los'Conformistos, an ally of Mara Salvatrucha, and Los'Negros, 18th Street Gang, and Amadio, two allies of Los'Negros. The shootout ended in 71 total deaths but was considered to be a Los'Negros victory if the Creeperian Imperial Police and Creeperian Army are excluded as combatants. The shootout is considered to be one of the largest in Creeperian history, involving around 230 people on all sides.

The neighborhood is controlled by the Los'Negros criminal gang. It is surrounded by territory controlled by Mara Salvatrucha, Los'Conformistos, and 18th Street Gang, of which, Mara Salvatrucha and Los'Conformistos are rivals to Los'Negros while 18th Street Gang is an ally of Los'Negros.
