James Kowalski ran on balancing the defense and diplomacy budgets, raising the standard of healthcare by raising taxes, but also solidifying the opt-in system with more options. He believed in imposing stronger national standards for education, teachers, and administrators; raise salary for teachers. He supported passing compellance laws to ensure the conglomerate labor unions have to bring their smaller leaders to the table when they lobby government. He is a strong Nantist and strong believer that the government should stay out of marriage. He himself had his same-sex marriage officiated in one of the more socially liberal Nantist church. He supported raising the fossil fuel percentage into the oil economy to give Diztanan oil companies period of growth and money to put back into their state; in addition he supported providing less regulation and more subsidies to certain companies and industries to ensure competition. With this, he also sought to lower corporate taxes. On trade, he supported one-on-one trade agreements with targeted industries. On citizen privacy, he believed in reducing domestic surveillance and data collection while also believing in increasing restrictions on gun ownership, such as some background checks, licenses for certain things.
Ivana Yassim was somewhat of a hawk Traditionalist. She supported the tight immigration standards, protectionist trade policies, nationalism in Icarisian culture and in the economic system. She believed in lowering corporate taxes and environemntal regulations on businesses. She rejected the traditional isolationist view and believed the military and intelligence needed to act on potential threats before they become a risk for national security. To do this she beleived in strenthening the intelligence communities abilities to surveil and collect data both domestically and abroad. She recieved a lot of criticism from her opponents for this view, however, she cited domestic conflicts that could've been avoided had the intelligence community been more succinct and had stable continuity. She believed in governmental marriage to secure the rights of all couples, but this point fell on deaf ears with her major opponent, James Kowalski, being a Nantist gay man who was married in a Nanti church. Yassim, like Kowalski, supported raising the fossil fuel's percentage in the oil economy. Yassim was a strong supporter of government transparency and commmunication with their processes and administration. She felt there was a lack of integrity in the presidency that led to lack of trust from the Icarisian people. This was her biggest seeling point and she argued it agauinst most of the career politicians she ran against. Despite some of her controversial views, Yassim was extremely popular candidate. She was fierce in the debates and many saw her as the most honest candidate. She knew how to debate, how to spin and mold her message, and she typically found herself on point with the feelings of her supporters.
