A referendum was held in El Salvador on 1 February 1888 to determine wether the country would abolish its monarchy in favor of a parliamentary republic. In the referendum, 58.19 percent of voters supported the abolition of the monarchy. Presidential and parliamentary elections were later held in August 1888 and the monarchy was officially abolished on 1 November 1888.
